Help with auto-timer

Heading out today to shoot some waterfalls. I have no access to a remote release at this time. I was wondering about this auto-timer. I have never used it before on my 30d. My question is, can I get the same thing from using the auto timer?

If I can set the seconds for the shutter, and then set the autotimer -- will this be workable?

Here's what I'm thinking,

set self timer function to 2 seconds instead of 10 for easier use
tv - set shutter speed slow
av - set to around f18 to start
then go to M and shoot?

If I'm on the wrong track, please let me know. Heading out soon, but will be checking forums on the cell.

Sure hope there is a way to quickly reset all this stuff back :P

EDIT: Ok, gonna leave the above up there in case someone else was way off in their way of thinking as I. Apparently there is no need to go to tv and av. Just set them both from manual.
