WOW! V impressive. Out of interest, what crop from full frame is that? What exposure comp did you use from the metered setting?

Full file size was 3072 x 2048..I just cropped it to this size 794 x 793. The second part of your question, I don't understand, sorry!..I ignored what my camera was saying and used ISO200, F11, 1/200sec on a tripod with my 300D taking the pics using the timer :)

Nice shot. I don't normally get the level of contrast you have in your shot. Any post-processing? Thanks for sharing.

Yes there was. I played with the histogram a little and the only other thing I did was USM 200, 2.0, 0...and cropped it :)

Nice shot with the Bigma!
Oh, that reminds me of full moon tonight. I'll see what my 100-300mm can do. ;)

Cool.
I just posted a moon pic as well, it's interesting to see the slightly different perspective of the moon's surface you got with what I got. The features are oriented differently.
In hindsite, I wish I would've taken a few pics over the course of the evening to get a sense of moventment.

Very nice. I took my first moon shot last night, but it didn't turn out as nicely as yours. I used a lower apature and didn't have 500mm of lens available to me. Great photo though.

Excellent shot - better than I could manage when I was trying with my Sigma 70-300mm.
Here is one I took last night (May 22nd) through a 16" reflecting telescope that a friend of mine has. I don't have a mount (taken right through the eyepiece), as I got my EOS 20D a week and a half ago (and have already taken 2000+ pictures), but this is what I ended up with. No cropping except horizontally. :D
Only post processing is a little boost in contrast.

I have noticed that the features vary, is this because the photos are taken in different parts of the world? I'm in Australia.

That's a great shot, I wondered if you could do that with a telescope. Did you use a tripod or is that handheld?
LOL at the 2000+ pictures..I have taken nearly 2500 pics but I have owned my camera for a few weeks now :)

I had my Tamron 1.4X attached as well. Look at the different rotations of the moon in the various shots in this thread. Boy are we all in different places.

I suspect that the shot through the telescope is upside down.
Witchy - What lens did you use for that telescope shot? How did you get it to focus through the eyepiece that close? I have been able to get pictures through my telescope with my s400, but never thought to try with my Rebel XT because of the minimum focusing distance. Attached is an older picture from my s400. I am looking into getting some sort of mount for my Rebel.

witchy, sorry for not making myself clearer but you answered my question! I have tried this using P mode and ended up compensating the exposure severely - I assume you went Manual and checked on the LCD after? Took some nice moon pics the other night with clouds drifting across - will try and post when I get chance to get my PC and camera in the same place!

Yes I used manual..My camera was saying the exposure was wrong but I ignored it :).

couldn't help myself, I took another tonight!
The moon is a different colour, I did take it earlier tonight, when the moon was lower. Does anyone know about these things. Is that the reason it's brown looking this time?

High power zoom clearly makes a big difference. The pic shows more details. Nice job, Witch!

Yes exactly the same as the first time, I just took the pictures earlier in the evening. I have been told tonight that the moon does get whiter the higher it gets..So there you go, I learnt something LOL :)

This was taken with my digital elph s230 through a telescope. A really inexpensive way of getting space shots... :)

The reason for the different colours is the stuff in the atmosphere. I don't know what specifically is causing your moon to be more brown, but it could just be smog if you are near a city. The lower the moon is on the horizon the more atmosphere the light goes through the more distortion you see. If you are anywhere near forest fires (even hundreds of miles away) the moon can get some pretty crazy colours (read red) as it goes through the smoke.

I've just stuck my lens right onto the eyepiece and took a picture that way. The magnifignation depends on the telescope. I cannot afford such great lens... :( I am slowing saving my pennies...
