I have the CPE-4 and works with 580EXII. Make sure you buy nim batteries along a good charger. I use duracell 2650 and for charger the Maha MH-C801d. This charger will also condition batteries and will also charge them under an hour all eight batteries. It is not cheap, but leaves other chargers in the dust.

My recollection is that the CPE 3 is for the 580EX etc. While the CPE4 is for the 580EXII.
The 4 also works with the 580EX. I have two 4s and use them with 580EX and 580EXII.

There are also some knocks available on eBay. One looks like an exact replica of the CPE 4 . I have no personal experience with them but others here have.

someone is trying to sell me a couple of CPE 3 batt packs for a cheap price (or so i thought) $40 each. I'm using 580EXII and i was told by the seller that this would work with the speedlites that i have. Can anyone pls confirm this? thanks.

One has has 6 AA cells, one has 8AA cells.

They both work on exactly the same flash units, 550EX, 580EX, 580EX II, 430EZ (note this is EZ not EX) and 540EZ.

Enjoy! Lon

Hi, Lon. Are you sure you're not confusing the CP-E2 which takes six batteries for the CP-E3 which, I believe, takes 8 batteries just like the CP-E4.

The only difference I know of between the CP-E3 and the CP-E4 is the "weather sealing" on the CP-E4 (the CP-E3 does not have that).

I have the CP-E3 and the CP-E4, they're virtually identical except for a little more weather sealing on the CP-E4. They both take 8 AA cells.

You are of course correct.

Sorry for the misinformation.

I had to look in my camera bag for this one, I have both, I use them both, can't say I notice any difference in practice.

OK. I have just purchased the Canon CP-E4 Battery Pack. Can anyone tell me where to connect it to the Speedlite? I have a 430EX and the Sigma version of the 580EX. The instructions say (but do not show how) to connect the cable to the "contact cover." Where on earth is it? I find a little round something under a little conver on my 430EX, but it certainly doesn't fit there. Am I really stupid or just blind?

Thanks,
Jack

There's no functional difference. The CPE4 is weather sealed while the CPE3 is not. Neither are compatible with the 430EX as there's no port for it.

Yeah, but how does it connect?

By a port that your flashes do not have.

The 430EX does not have an HV port so you can't connect the CP-E4 to that flash. And Sigma makes their own version of the battery pack with its own connector so the Canon pack won't fit in it either (assuming the Sigma flash has an HV port).

There's a very good buy and sell here on the forum that would be a handy place for either your battery packs or one of those flashes :D

There is a post count requirement of 30 posts before anybody can place ads in the BUY and SELL forums.
