#3 and #6 are the best in the series, nice panning shots and good colors.

Thanks! it only took me 830 shots to get these few in focus, lol.

Nice angle in the last one!

Thanks, there are some steep bends around croft, lol.

I agree with Tobias - Doesn't matter how many you get, nice to get those great few.

It looks like we had the best of the weather on the Saturday for the practice days - bright but contrasty...

Yeah, the weather was pretty poor on the race day, and even threatened to rain.
But i got some good pans with wheel movement too luckily.

I was erring on the side of faster shutter speeds to ensure more shots were sharp rather than making a mess of the pans. The last one above is like that although some did come off reasonably well.

I hadn't tried any pans at this close range on the straight just down from the hairpin and with the marshals stood in front, it didn't leave a lot of time to sort it out...

I'll keep practising... :-)

I don't mean to be rude, but maybe try posting your images in their own individual thread. Your photos are nice, but you've totally overrun PCthug's thread with your own photos without offering any advice or direction to suggest that you may be assisting. It's all well and good to say "hey I was there, too, nice shots. have a look at mine here..." and provide a link, but it's a bit unfair on the OP who has posted here to showcase his own images for you to then subsequently flood his thread with images of your own.

What range were your shots taken from, they look great to me.
I shoot bikes too, most are at 5-6metres away with a 100-400 pump action canon L.
stimpy.smugmug.com - checkout my 'manfield' galleries. let me know what you think.

Excellent series. Love the lean angles these riders get their bikes down to.

OK - I'll think about a new thread for future stuff but for this one I thought I'd just add a few extra pictures to an existing thread with a relevent topic...

I've posted 7 pictures in addition to the OPs 11...

Murray - some nice shots and it certainly helps with having decent weather for the images to pop.

I'm no expert as I've only tried shooting BSB twice, both times at Croft. Mine were shot from a range of approx 10 to 40 yards and some have had various amounts of cropping done to bring them up in the frame size. Croft has quite a lot of banks around the track which are great for spectating and shooting from but you need a reasonable FL of 200-300mm for most of it. Some places need 500mm. If you get lower down the banks, the fence starts creeping in to shots unless you're 7ft tall or have something to stand on :( This is where media passes work wonders as you can get inside the fencing and next to the barriers.

It looks like you were going for a similar technique to me - upping the shutter speeds to ensure the bike is sharp / frozen but you loose the sense of speed. If you want the effect, I guess panning practice is needed at slower shutter speeds but the scrap rate will go up, especially if the light levels are lower (better for slower shutter speeds but you lose the cushion of a smaller aperture keeping the bike acceptably in focus.) From my day there, I've only found a couple so far that I'd class as true panning shots and a I've lot of near misses with the bike not crisp. One of my best panning ones was taken at 1/750th second so it's a moveable feast as to what works when...

Very similar bike, not sure if it's the same guy...

Taken on a trackday in June.

I think it is the same bloke unless it's someone else riding his bike - Tom Tunstall. He's recently moved up to BSB this last season AFAIK.

Thanks for the info - I'm not too knowledgeable about bikes to know some of the finer points / differences - I'm more into the car side of things. I know of Tom because he used to work in a closely related department at the same company as me.
