Was going through the pics I had from that wedding in April. Found these and thought I'd post them for fun.

I think the 3rd is the one that draws my attention most of these. I always like seeing photos of professionals taking pictures, and this is no exception. I'd like the 2nd one better if they were closer together and not how they are... they look too posed for a full shot like that, and too stiff (it looks like they're posing for the photographer to take a picture of their hands?)
I can't make up my mind about the first... in a way I'd like to see more life since they've just gotten married, but then again I like it because it shows that they can now breathe a sigh of relief that they made it through it all. Her vail seems to make the photo look off center, though.

elbirth,
Thanks for your comments. They are posed and the reason they're not as smiling is because the photographer was indeed taking a pic of their hands. I didn't want to butt in and try taking a shot too, so just took from further away for fun. Then I realised it'd be more fun to see the whole scene of the pro taking ring shots.

The first shot I have a few more, but liked this one best. They were tired. Had been posing for ages and took a breather while the pro spoke to his assistant.

My problem with the first one is the pole coming out of their heads. Perhaps a wider f-stop might have helped. Also, it's not flattering to the bride.

I like #2. The composition is good, and there's a sense of love. It captures the bride's beauty.

#3 has more story to it, but for me it doesn't convey the relationship quite as much.

BTW, all three seem to suffer from blown-out highlights on the bride's dress. I'm not expert enough to know what to do about that, though.

lowering the ISO and opening up the aperture would probably help with those blow outs. They were shot at ISO 800, which should probably be dropped to about 400. F/7.1 was used for the first, and this should be down closer to maybe 5.6 or lower if possible. 1/100 for the shutter speed is roughly appropriate for being handheld, though it may need to increase a little to make sure you don't let in TOO much light. The other 2 used a slower shutter speed and wider aperture. This coupled with the high ISO is what helped blow out the highlights.

Oh wow, I've never understood the whole technical aspects of blown highlights. Thanks a bunch guys for giving me somre more info how to avoid it. To be fully honest this is my weakest point; not knowing the theory of photography. :o

I'm far from an expert on how to avoid them, but I do know a few general concepts that help reduce them. Knowing ways to avoid getting too much light is a key factor. Using spot metering or center-weighted metering would help too, I'd imagine. I need to play with these more on my 20D, and I believe the 300D that you have has some metering options as well. Check the manual for more info and play with them some.

Here's a good read on blown highlights, as well as some tips
