hey guys,

if you buy a canon lens or any part which comes with a warranty and you buy it from a non authorized dealer..lets say on ebay or on here.

is hte warranty still ok ? if you get a blank card and you fill it out?
i thought you had to send in your receipt.and wont they know then that you didn't buy it from an authorized dealer? im confused?

honestly, I have never filled out a warranty card, and don't know what to use them for. Anything I've ever bought that needed warranty work was done without the need of the card...

really? you sent stuff into canon without the receipt or the warranty card?

I haven't sent anything to Canon, but I've sent something to Tokina, Sigma, and various computer parts sellers. They've always just looked at my order # and seen how long it's been, and if it's in the warranty period accepted it.

Maybe Canon is different, but I don't see why it would be...

In the US, Canon wants a sales receipt. That's all they want--they don't need the warranty card and may not even accept just the warranty card. The sales receipt tells them whether you bought it from an authorized dealer and when.
