Hi,

This weekend i was at a Porsche Sport Cup meeting with my G10. I've tried some settings to get the best picture of a racing Porsche. The 3200 ISO continious mode was definitely the fasted, but also the most ugly. The procedure that worked the best was: P mode, servo AF and spot meter mode. It required quite some technique to move the camera with the car while shooting. It was a overcast day... The first phot is a 100% crop, the rest is only cropped and scaled to 800x600 no other post processing.

Good job!

I used my G9 at an ALMS race once, just for fun. I remember me having my focus set to manual, i had it on b&w, but I had the ISO down at a normal number.

awesome shots! i still have yet to try doing panning shots...you have to turn the image stabilization off or too panning right? how slow should the shutter speed be?

if you're panning at the right speed to keep the vehicle steady in the shot, you can leave the shutter speed relatively slow. One technique a friend uses is manual focus on the point you want to take the shot then pan back and pan with the vehicle hitting the shutter at your pre decided point while still panning. ETTR for correct exposure and increase ISO if necessary just as you would for a still shot because if you get your panning right, the vehicle should be quite still in the frame anyway

My first attempt at panning with the G9. AF, full optical zoom, IS OFF, Av 7.1 shutter speed was about 1/60ish
