Hi,
I am eager to go to Silverstone motor race to take photographs. I have no experience with motorsports photography before. There are two events in coming weeks. One is British Superbike Championship on Sep 26-27 and another one is Britcar 500 on Oct 02-04.

1. I would like to know which is the best event to attend.

In another thread, I found that Priory and Luffield corners are good place to take photos.

I am also interested in taking photographs of Grid Girls.:D

2. Are Priory and Luffield corners good place for taking photographs of race and grid girls?:)

I got EOS 400D and EF 70-300mm lens.

3. Are there any other things I should concentrate for visiting the motor sports?

Please, if you have attended the Silverstone motor sports event before, give me and for others your tips and suggestions.

Evening,

I put a couple of threads together following a trip to Silverstone last weekend. Not sure if you've seen them:

For pit girls you'd need to be on the pit straight or if open you can go do a pit walk. For getting them on the grid you'll need to be on the pit straight at the Copse end.

I assume they wont have the full International Circuit open for these events although I can't be sure. Luffield Terrace is always a good point, nice complex of corners where you can see some action. Abbey and Farm are also good from the stands.

There are likely to be bigger crowds at the BSB event, Saturday is always a winner to find good positions if you have a 2 day ticket. Not so sure on the Britcar event as I've never been, planning on making the October event myself.

I shoot with a 70-300 also, is good enough for most locations at the track.

Grid Girls - you need a long lens and be on the start finish straight, which needs granstand access.

Britcar being a long race means you can cover the whole circuit and it will be much less busy than the bikes.

For your first time, I'd choose cars over bikes.

However, Silverstone isn't that good for photography. It has its moments but you can't get close like you can at Mallory Park for example.

Hi Mart, thanks for your suggestions. I also read your two threads. It gives me some good idea about the Silverstone events.
Also thanks for andrewc. I will have a look at Mallory park too. :)

Cheers flickrman. There're loads of free maps of the track if you google it. Basically all the "shooting" positions seem to be on between 1'oclock and 6'oclock (where the pit straight is 6). Basicially anywhere there's a mound allowing you to peak over the fencing.

Last year the Britcar 24 used the full Grand Prix circuit (rather than national or international) and I think they're using it for the 6 hour race this year.

This gives more photo ops.
