I would like your opinion and suggestions on this photo I took last weekend at an old and small fishing harbor, where I enjoy going every once in a while.
Obviously, I like it but I realy don't know if it has any appeal to others.

300D + 50mm f1.8
Shot in RAW; AV at 1.8; ISO 100
Converted to B&W in PS using chanels mixer (red chanel), after adjusting levels. Some USM applied starting with 300/0.3/7.
Any comment is welcome!

interesting shot. I'm not sure if i feel anything about it though. great detail and texture, but it doesn't draw me in.

Hello Erika,
Thanks for your comment.
I understand your point, I'm not sure what I like in it either.
I think it may lack a meaningful purpose.
The boat is on land and the anchor also. Obviously the boat and the anchor are connected (in subject) but beyond that, it may lack another purpose.
When I took the photo, I just took it because I was playing with the DOF and the image appealed to me mainly because of the rough texture of the rusty anchor, without thinking about any further meaning.
Maybe that's what's wrong.
Come to think of it, it may well be what has been wrong in many photos I take.

Hello Jaime,
I've looked at this image several times today and only now can I make up my mind and give comment. The one thing which puts me off was staring me in the face! It's the out of focus item in the foreground which I feel detracts and distracts other than that I like the overall image. There's a semi-circle above the boat which I would possibly clone out.

I think I'd crop a bit off the top/bottom/left & wonder how it looks in color.

Hello David,
I appreciate your comment. Thanks for taking the time to look and reply.
I could only now work on your suggestions.
The foreground is a piece of fabric that the fishermen put over the arch you see over the boat, for protection in the rain, or to protect the fish under intense sun.
I tried to clone out the arch but couldn't do it effectively. There's to much variation in the backgound tones.
I think you might be right about the fabric and the arch, though.

I think it works better.
And the color version of the uncropped photo.

Jaime,
The colour version is much better it adds much depth to the overall image. I like the crop too.
