Hey, yesterday did 900km round trip. Went out over "The Great Dividing Range" - technically outback I believe, though days and days driving from "the real outback". Took my 10D-grip-50mm nifty-fifty, my free tripod, my chinese cheap shutter remote. No filters, no polariser, no wide-angles... no real "landscape must have" gear just yet.

My first sunrise exercise...
Lesson 1. A torch is handy before sunrise - the tripod levelling bubble is not illuminated!
Lesson 2. A hot coffee dosed-up fully awake person would have checked/cleaned dust from the lens! No, I don't have even a skylight filter yet. About 2 hours later in broad daylight I noticed the dust...

Results. Great light, impressed myself.

This one is a crop, but no other PS work except downsizing. Camera set to std parameters.
1. First light bluey huey pic was ISO200, 1/2 sec.

This is after I moved forward off the embankment. Color has changed in only 3.55 minutes! Gotta work fast. 1/8th ISO200.:)

Well I was a driving a mini-van out to Dubbo for a delivery, but I gave myself a few breaks for camera driving too. There are more pics - mostly showing drought conditions (last 3-4 years has been one long 'dry spell' in that part of the state). I also took this one with an eye to changing my avatar. Footy team cap ends up looking like a big schnoz. Its a real 'dirty' pic.

Oh, and the back end of a Tonka dump truck went by... an unusual pic me thinks!;)

the outback provides some stunning landscapes especially if work doesn't get in the way

Nice Carzee. Is that truck body somewhere along the Golden Highway?.

Thats the "hwy" alright. Truck heading west toward Cobar mines or ...? Maybe a new truck getting delivered piecemeal. Police escort plus 4 vehicles ahead getting other traffic off the road. I do 40,000 a year etc and have seen a lot, and I see all the pretty lights from the escorts and thought, WTF!!? How it got over some of the bridges and up some of the hills on that road, I dunno.

Mailbox anyone?

Ulan or Orange.
'Cool' Mailbox. I wonder if theres a POTN strap package inside ? :-) !

Maybe the mailbox would have benefited a lot from a polariser. The rusty red was what I wanted.

I climbed up the hilltop and got ready for the sunset session. I set up the tripod and shot this eastern facing shot while waiting for the golden hour.

I enhanced the green midtones in PS. It needed a color boost, it was so bland. Its the coastal side of the ranges and has had rain. You can spot one big paddock thats had a nice super-phosphate makeover too. ISO100 1/50th

I climbed the hill on the right so I could look east (above) and west for the sunset.

The sunset wasn't much. I have other daylight pics and will post in another thread.

Wonderful series of shots. Thanks for sharing. Love the Tonka truck "wide Load" talk about a road hog.

It was just a happy snap, but on second looks (critque jargon warning)... it has composition, all primary colors, visual stimulation, story, simplicity, blah blah..

Its not often you get ordered off the road, wait a few minutes thinking... is anything gonna happen? Is this a hoax? Why can't I drive along slowly... Is there some toxic spill or diesel on the road... You just sit there thinking "Emergency Service types" exaggerate safety stuff... and then the thing goes by a tad too fast -surely speeding- and the draft blows your hat off!

Its not too bad a sunset :-) !. I haven't walked up the hill yet. Might have to do that one day - to get rid of that bit of road from the photo. look forward to seeing your other pics !

Under that sunset, directly west, was downtown Denman. Could've done with a telephoto. Everything I do I seem to need this lens or that -but the 50mm will have to get me thru while I save up for Lg. The free tripod is better than nothing, buts its a close call.

Must buy another lottery ticket...

Having a rest day today, chocky parade night tonight. Yesterday drove to Coffs etc. A few sunrise pics.

Murphys Law as applied to photogrpahy says that the required lens will always be in the camera bag.
Downtown Denman - And you didn't get a photo of the highrises on the skyline ?? :-) :-) :-) :-) !.
I thin L glass is called L because it L-udes me at he moment :-)
