Canon + Lexar 80x = Bad Mojo

Just to add, that this does not seem to affect me after the firmware hack on the Rebel.
The problem occurs as stated by Canon is when pressing display after shooting.

"Problem:
Pressing the [DISPLAY] button immediately after shooting with the camera set to "RAW+JPEG (high image quality)" causes the LCD monitor to become entirely white and the camera to lock up, losing all the images in the buffer. This problem is caused by the firmware for these models and sometimes occurs regardless of the recording media used."

Hm. 1 have 1628 pics shot on my 2GB 80x with no troubles (yet). My card gets re-formatted after every upload to my PC. I wonder if that makes any difference.

Ok, so reading Lexar's Alert, you will have to return the card to them for an update, leaving you without the card for what? 1 month? 2?

They also say Canon will be offering a brand specific firmware update for their cameras as well, but Canon's website leaves all responsibility to Lexar. This makes me nervous.

What I am impressed is that at least instead of covering it up, both Canon and Lexar are admitting the fault and working on a solution. Now this is something I like and feel more confident continue to buy and use their products.

As for sending the CF card in., I don't have a problem with that because I have several ones and believe that we all should at least carry with us more than one incase something goes wrong. I normally carry 3 on me because while one card is full, I can continue shooting while the full one gets copied onto the backup Hard drive.

And for service wise from Lexar, I have been quite impressed at their turnaround time and service level. I've sent a defective card in and got a replacement really quick. I have 3 Lexar, and several mixed brands.

For the firmware updates, this is for specific models and seems to be affecting the Full Frame cameras (1Ds Mark II and 1D MarkII). I guess the CF card cannot handle the amount of data being written on the card at once.

This Lexar issue does not affect the 300D from what I read (the press release). Am I missing something?

On Canon's news press, it mentioned the Rebel XT and Kiss.
I don't really like the marketing of the different names but the 300D has different names. Is also called the Digital EOS KISS in some countries.
