I think I read this somewhere before, but for the life of me, but I can't remember where. My laptop does not have a firewire port and I read somewhere that you could just buy an IEEE 1394 firewire pcmcia card for the notebook. I did this, and using the supplied firewire cable that came with my 1D Mk II, I still get a "camera not recognized" when I attempt to open EOS capture with Canon DPP. I am using v1.6.1 of DPP. I am trying to shoot tethered so that I can view my shot immediately on my laptop. When I used this setup with my 20D, I had no problem. Is there something I am doing wrong or is it my equipment?
Thanks in advance for any help received...

I used to have the same problem. I overcame the problem by first starting EVU or DPP. Next plug in the 1DmkII with it turned off. After plugging the camera into the firewire port, turn it on. Make sure the EVU or DPP is the active program when you turn on the camera. EVU or DPP should acknowledge the camera (check the file browser panel of the program). And fianlly, start up EC.
BTW, use either EVU or DPP but not both. Only one program can have control of the camera and mess things up with the camera if both are running.

Thanks PacAce and kufel for your replies. I ended up uninstalling the WIA drivers and then re-installing them (probably correctly this time). The Canon/DPP website has very explicit directions on how to uninstall the program down to a nats a.... Anyhow, all is well, and I am back in business.
Thanks again,
Jeff
