I love the first one. Great use of light and shade, as well as diagonal lines to lead the viewer through the picture.
No 2 possibly needs more light on his face as I would like to see his expression more clearly. What lighting did you use for them?

Light on both shots is daylight without flash, on the first (upper) one (9:12 AM) there was a little sunshine.
Second shot (8:10 AM) was rather dark cloudy morning without sunshine.
