SanDisk, Kingston, PQI, Transcend, RiData ...
I do not shoot video and do not often shot continuous so I pick up most affordable (cheapest) that is available at time I look.
The RiData 16GB x233, @ less then $50 seems a winner for my 5DII.

from 8 mb to 16 gig
Most brands - go for what's on sale / rebate .
So far the Sandisk extreme III is the best , fastest will takes 7 shots before busy signal . Next is the 133x transcend - will do 6 shots before busy signal .
These are of bride / groom comming down Isle then bridemaids - shooting raw+jped w flash as fill .
I have found that downloading from camera - slowest , then USB 2 next is firewire 400 and the fastest is firewire 800 . The funny thing is the firewire 800 w / adapter to 400 is about 3 seconds faster on 12 gigs . Going the othe way - 400 into an 800 computer - about 15 seconds slower .

I use a couple of 8G Extreme IIIs... one CF and one SD in the 1D and one SD in the Olympus.
I also have 2x 2G Ultra IIs, one 4G Ultra II, a 32GB Nikon CF, a 256mb Transcend CF and another 2G which I can't remember the brand of... none of them have seen light of day for quite some time :p

Extreme IIIs all the way... i've never had a problem with them, (2x 8gig CF) fast enough for my use.

2x Extreme IV 16GB - for 5DMk2
2x Extreme III 8GB - for 40D
3x Extreme III 4GB - for 350D
3x Ultra II 1GB - for Dimage 7U
1x SanDisk CF 1GB - for Dimage 7U
1x IBM Microdrive 1GB - for Dimage 7U
Also have a cheaper 32GB card (Edit: Kingston Elite PRO 133x) as panic spare in case I'm not able to empty the two 16GB cards. Slower, but at least I don't have to browse around in panic to find something to delete.

sure some are better in some cameras in others, sometimes i set a time lapse to run all day without going back to it so i need a really big card and there are times i go days being away from my laptop for various reasons so thats why i have spares on top of a cf card downloader that holds 120gb for field backups

I have 5 cards....
I've no idea how many cards I actually own, it must be dozens. Over the years each has been replaced by a faster, larger card. I started off with an 8MB card (yup - MB) which I've still got somewhere. Nowadays I actually use a 16GB Extreme IV, WexPro 16GB UDMA and 12 GB Extreme III.

I decided to use different size for different bodies just to make sure I don't get hit by the auto-jump in image number sequence by using the wrong card.

Bunch of 8 and 4 GB Extreme IVs and 4 and 2 GB Extreme IIIs. Anything slower or smaller is for emergency use only. In fact, the 2 GB Extreme IIIs are rapidly reaching that level.

My reason for so many sizes - 8 mb to 16 gig . An example is this year I transferred 46 pictures to the sandisk 1 gig card .They have a sandisk XX to 1 reader .
Last year when I left Mexico I put some last minute shots on a 512 mb card . I got it back this year .
The biggest card the picture machine will read is a 4 gig . I don't speak much spanish - easier than going home coping to a smaller card and then picking out shots I want . .
