Large image size at 100kb or under?

Question on posting images-

How do people post such large photos at 100kb?

Do they lower the image quality in PS? I export from iPhoto and 300-400x is around 100kb but they seem small on the screen.

PSCS has a wonderfull function.. "save for the web"

the compression in that is great...
But your best bet is to host the imagex yourself.. then ink them.. (or embed them)
