John Martin thought that his goal had won the game...

...but then there was the tension of the penalty shoot-out.

This is the penalty save that won the day for Grays...

...and no-one can stop Ashley Bayes from celebrating!

Somebody open the champagne...

...and then a chance to kiss the Trophy!

Praising your work is almost getting redundant - it just goes without saying your stuff is awsome. I love to see your work - sets the bar higher and makes me want to do that much better. Keep posting. I would love to follow you around for a day and just watch how you work. Cheers!

Almost got excited, thought it was REAL football, hehe, that sport is for ladies. /ducks and waits for the hail of gunfire to cease
Great pictures. I cant wait for American Football to startup again.

Beautiful shots and a brilliant game, I watched it on TV. Better game than the Cup final IMO.
See you next season, If we can get a team together.....too long a story to post.
FAO lost, at least the only padding is on their shins mate. ;-) One player had a tib and fib break in this game. It was painful just to watch. BTW any ideas how he is??

I know BigDan I used to be a Goalie. I miss playing soccer/futbol. But I still prefer to watch US Football.
boydE,
You get that effect by using a small aperature. Its called Bokeh and is why a lot of people move to SLRs over P&S. Check out the Stickies or Search Bokeh and you will get some good results.

how did you get the background to blur?
As 'lost' said, I was using a 300mm lens (often with a 1.4x extender) for the action shots and shooting wide open (i.e. at f/2.8 or f/4) - this serves to throw the background out of focus - with the effect being increased as the subject matter gets closer to the camera (as in #4).

Praising your work is almost getting redundant - it just goes without saying your stuff is awsome. Well, THAT'S an understatement! :D

*lol* I'm blushing here... lost for words for once in my life... I'm just pleased that my passion for sport (at all levels and of all kinds) comes through a bit in the images I take.
There are a few more pics from the Trophy Final here: http://www.tgsphoto.co.uk/grays_hucknall/ if anyone is interested in seeing them.
Thanks again folks!

Iwish I had not looked at these shots! Now, I have to go burn mine. They are trash in comparison to yours. Guess I will have to work harder!

It all happened very fast - shows the benefit of keeping both eyes open when you're shooting - otherwise I might not have seen him come sliding in...
