Hi everyone!

I am still new to studio lighting and I came across this lighting and wonder what it is and what it does.

1. Does it work like a direct flash but has less harsh shadows?
2. Is it similar to a ring flash?
3. Can i over power sunlight?
4. Is it a beauty dish mounted on your lens?

Thanks!

it actually IS a ring flash.....with a modifier on it that basically turns it into a ringflash beauty dish. (see HERE (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/585834-REG/Hensel_8611_White_Beauty_Dish_VII.html)for the hensel version of that reflector)

How about the Alien Bees ABR800? I noticed that the tech spec on the AB ABR800 is 320 watts. Can I use this flash unit to over power sunlight?

ABR800 works just fine....I actually own one myself, but am about to sell it as I just don't use it enough.

regarding whether it'll overpower the sun, it all comes down to time of day, whether you use any modifiers, and most importantly, distance from your subject. If you stay relatively close to your subject (which is usually how a ringflash is used), you should be just fine overpowering the sun.

You're looking to sell your ABR800? How much?

Will I need portable power for the ring flash?

either portable power or a really long extension cord! :p

I'll PM you info about my ringflash tomorrow (once I figure out pricing/accessories)...no need to turn this thread into a buy/sell discussion. :D
