Hello, I just logged in as the newest member - good or bad, who know! Quick question regarding the bundled software the d60 is shipped with. It seams from the surface to be a bit (please, I'm not cutting anyone down) amateurish with its inherent adjustments. If I'm good with photoshop 7, wouldn't be better to do the same adjustment in PS7, in its more controlled environment - maybe more time efficient with the Canon software plug in though?
I'm a 10 year film guy who has been bugged buy his studio mate (he uses a better light 4x5 scanning back) to get shooting digital. I've just bought the d60 a a "lets see" venture. I'm a location guy.
By the way, great forum, Thanks!

Sanford,

Welcome.

Yes I certainly would recommend doing edits in Photoshop than the Canon software, which mosts users think sucks.

For conversion from raw format, you might like to have a look at BreezeBrowser www.breezesys.com (see also the free Downloader) or YarcPlus www.pictureflow.com.

Thanks Roger, I spent way too many hours looking through all of your GREAT info last night, you know what you’re talking about.
I’m a Mac guy and have just talked with my digital friend who shoots w/ a scanning back – not familiar with small format though. We talked about Fred Mairanda’s Lpbatch for the d60, and about working exclusively in photoshop. What I now think I understand is, I’d like to work exclusively in photoshop but have a plug only to OPEN a raw file, then do all my image manipulations in PS7. Again from what I think I understand, I’d trust PS7’s sharp before any others and apply its actions last.

Thanks Again,

Sanford Schulwolf

Sanford,

Mac users do seem to get a raw deal wrt to conversion options. (I'm trying hard not to smirk :D ) There is talk of Adobe announcing their own plug-in for raw conversion in the next few weeks.

Fred Miranda's stuff is good, but you might want to look at Pekka's LinearSharpen. See this thread http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7503.

If you install the Canon TWAIN driver, you should be able to import raw images into PS directly rather than converting outside.

I think the Canon TWAIN driver is only for PC. Any other ideas for Mac users word be great.
Thanks,
Sanford
