You cannot buy the cotton carrier holster without getting the entire vest set up (I tried). Plus, as far as I can tell they are not shipping the contraption until manufacturing issues are solved.

sorry, but you should at least check the site before you tell people that as if it were fact. Not only have they been shipping CCs for a month now (at least) they've also started selling just the holster on their site:
http://buy.cottoncarrier.com/ (everything)
http://buy.cottoncarrier.com/product_p/500cch.htm (just the holster with one button)
OP, I'd say both are going to give you the same pants problem. So it depends on how you want to hold your camera in the thing. I checked out both of these systems before buying a cotton carrier. Basically, the cotton carrier has videos of the owner skiing and mountain biking with his with a 1DIII and 70-200. The spider is very similar, but their "button" is a bit more of a "spike" which is going to be an issue any time you want to set the thing down. Granted you trade that for a stealthier holster on your belt... But the CC button has a much better profile IMHO, plus his videos show it in use, the spider not so much (at least not as of last month when I bought mine).

Thank you for that news. I have not seen that information on any of the message boards. I intend to use the holster with my Thin Tank Pro belt- so there would be no strain on the pants or beltloops.

that's true. the attachment of the CC is a better profile.
i made my own "R-strap" but my connection just wasnt as discreet as the real thing.
i think i'll be getting the CC sooner or later. which means i have to get a hand strap.
suggestions? i'd like one where i can use it with the grip and without.
but not as pricey as something like the camdapter.
