#1 is probably my favourite shot but they are all very nice. Pics 2 and 3 the top of the subjects head is cut off, so I might have cropped those differently. Oh and where do you get those great frames to go with B&W images?

wow, you really changed your look huh? you did your conversions much differently the last time you posted. these are much more contrasty and give a solemn look to the shots. not that i think its bad, but for the subject (a happy little kid) it doesnt seem quite right. they seem more appropriate for inner city kids or where you want a feeling of desparation(especially with the vignetting effect). great shots though. the second shot needs the top of his head. i am all about chopping heads off in closeups and such, but for this particular shot i think he needs the rest of his head.

how did you do these conversions? they really are beautiful (but like i said maybe for different shots). Thanks for sharing.

the origionals have the tops of the heds but i didnt like em that way.the second i cropped because i wanted to draw focus to his feet since that was his focus

i converted with the raw processor in PSCS i just brought the saturation down to 0 and then the contrast up to 100 and messed with the otehr settings you can add vignette with one of the options in the raw converter too. the frames are an action.

i used the solemn conversion cause they werent really playing much kinda just mulling aorund- found out why the next day they all came up with colds but it was a kinda muggy cruddy day.

teh origional images have no blow outs and are properly exposed but dunno- did not like em lol

Ann,
These are nice monochromes. Try another method: setup the ACR conversion with saturation adjusted (along with the others: contrast, brightness, WB, etc.) to give you the contrast you like, regardless of color. Convert to a 16 bit TIFF and do the monochrome conversions via calculations, or channel mixer methods. See if you like the results. Sometimes I feel like I lose some of the contrasty elements when I desatureate in ps raw. Sometimes not. I haven't really come up with a process to decide what method works best, maybe you will have some input, since these show that you are capable. Let me know what you come up with.

here is one of them converted differently...

The second conversion yielded more definition in the shadow areas. Again, I have a hard time determining which is "better." I like the vingetting in the first, and the contrast is dramatic. I don't get too much of a solemn feel as I see them more as cautious, innocent, and explorative. Kids aren't always playing full blast, and as you indicated, maybe they were a little pooped with the sniffles coming on. Anyway nice job on all, I wouldn't have made the suggestion if you weren't so capable at these. Really nice.

I like this one better. The first time looked good but did lack something.

Me too, just can't help myself! I've been adding some vignetting as well. Kind of funny, when you think of all the complaints you hear when it is caused by the lens.
I'm glad you took the time to to put these up.
