Stitch Assist Mode

I understand that exposure and most other adjustments for a series shot in this mode are set on the first image shot. Does this apply to focus too or is focus preset?

I gave the focus in stitich mode a test. Focused across the room for the first picture, then for the second picture I focused close - a glass on a coffee table right in front of me. Both pictures are focused correctly. So I would say each picture is refocused. To make sure it isn't depth of field I can see the glass is out of focus for the far picture and the wall is out of focus in the picture of the glass.
