My first trip out to the local water park with new 20D and Tamron 28-75 and as luck would have it, there were some water skiers out too!

I take my hat off to you high-speed sports shooters - man it is hard getting a decent image of a fast moving subject! This was the best of what was in all honesty a pretty mediocre bunch of pics!!

It was the first time I've really used the cam, so wan't too sure about what settings etc to use - but there is plenty of time to learn!

Comments, etc welcome...

That's a good shot. Same technique with a longer lens and you're there.

I haven't ever shot water skiing, but with action shots, these are things I find helpful...
-- single focus point at center
-- wide aperature, high ISO (800 or 1600), fastest possible shutter speed
-- find tree to lean against, use monopod, get good support
-- on my 20D (relatively new) I've been using Custom function 4 set to 1, very helpful

My sports shots got a lot better when I moved up from my old long lens (max f4-5.6) to a 70-200 f2.8

have fun improving, but you've got a good start
