1DMKIII AF settings

Hi
Wondered if anybody could proffer any advice on the best AF settings for the 1D3 for football(soccer) please?
Shot 2 matches so far. Tracks OK in the main, the problem seems more to do with aquiring the target in the first place, i.e. SLOW!
The camera is running 1.2.5 and is not listed on Canon website as requiring any AF mods acording to the serial number. Believed to be Jan 09, previous owner had it returned to Canon.

I'm sure that it's a setting, as there are so many, as opposed to hardware.
