only thing i noticed is the crop. i started shooting dragstrip photos this year (well started shooting period this year). As i take more and more pics i ave noticed the tighter i get on the car the better the photo looks. it really gets your attention to the car.
heres and example of mine and the difference of how i was shooting and now am shooting. The crop alone makes the picture have a lot more impact. At least thats how i see it. I could be wrong and some may disagree. But it just takes lots of practice in shooting there. Since your light changes with just about every click through out the day. Also knowing the exciting and photogenic cars helps.
here is a pic from about 3-4 months ago

Nice pics. I'd like to get out there sometime.
In fact, I was just down the road from you Saturday shooting a football game between Sabine Pass HS and Legacy Christian Academy on Hwy 105 out of Beaumont. - About 30 miles.

The crop on #2 is a little looser than noraml for me but thats the car owner off to the far left and I didn't want to crop him out of the pic. Its just a matter of what you like, and that last shot of yours is nice, good sense of motion and speed.
Nice pics. I'd like to get out there sometime.
Maybe I'll run into you out there sometime, its a nice track and very photog friendly, just get a wrist band and have it.
Thanks for the views and comments.

Yes that is gld in my shots. Pretty much where I get to play with this stuff. I'd say 90% of all my photography this year was from there

If you are only going to post on line, the pics look great when they are cropped tight. However, you just about have to leave room if you are going to print an 8x10 from an image with a 2x3 aspect ratio. I just kick myself when I crop too tight and inevitably, that will be the picture someone will want printed as an 8x10. You can't imagine how many tops and bottoms I've added to images in post. It's a painful lesson every time.

You are 100% correct here Jim. I learned that lesson a long time ago about shooting tight then trying to print. I sell pics on line and at the track so I am very familiar with the fun created by a tight shot.

Jim M:
I always crop mine to 8 X 10 during the final save. not sure why, but they tend to look better to my eye rather than a 2x3 crop.
To the original poster: Yes, by all means, crop tighter. My rule of thumb is: If it's not part of the action or story, crop it out if at all possible! Here's an example of a tight crop from earlier this year:

I'll go again next year and get even more shots. Drag racing is really fun to shoot!
