This is my first feeble attempt at trying to photograph a drag race. This was at the new Zmax Dragway in Charlotte on 9/19/09. Shot was made with a Canon 40D with 70-200 2.8L lens.
CC appreciated.

I have found that moving around the track is best, but hard when it is busy. For topfuel shooting i like to be up higher and about the 100' mark.
I attached photo for referance. Keep shooting, it gets better every time you go.

Cool shot, but would love to see it in better quality. The image looks severely dumped.

2nd shot is cool, the crew doesn't get enoughf credit or exposure. But like the above poster said, keep shooting, you'll get better. And shoot LOTS of captures at every event. I've taken 6 or 7 hundred pics at events just to get one or two keepers.
Good work - keep it up!!

Thanks for the comments guys. I took almost 500 shots but I was sitting 24 rows up from just behind the start line. Would have loved to have been down on the ground, but that was pros only. I will definitely use my 24-105 lens next time.
"SAB0TEUR" which photo are you referring to and what does "dumped" mean?

Keep plugging away at it, it gets better with practice. Myself I like getting down track a little ways and high up in the stands so I can see over the wall. Your better off shooting the car in the far lane because your your view of the car in the near lane will probably be cut off by the wall. Heres oneof mine from earlier this year.
