Samyang lenses are pretty good (optically), though they are more of a plasticy build and are MF only with no electronic communication.

Samyang lenses are pretty good (optically), though they are more of a plasticy build and are MF only with no electronic communication.
But they're CHEAP to match...
their new 14mm f/2.8 for instance is less than $400 and looks pretty good optically..
I was just reading this and when i saw Canon excluded from the 35mm f/1.4 I got sad..
Then I read we're getting a 35mm f/1.2 instead...
Then my face contorted into a shape of blissful joy :)
I wonder how much this will be? Seriously...Samyang is a pretty inexpensive company usually, I bet $600 for a 35mm f/1.2...
Now how many people will buy one at that?

I'd be more apt to buy one than a Canon 35 f/1.2L, thats for sure.

If it performs well wide open, I'll be picking up one for sure.

Samyang has an 85 1.4 - is a fantastic lens. If I hadn't had my eyes set on my 1.9/85 Super Takumar, I would have taken that instead. The glass is great, and from samples I've seen with my own eyes (not web, RAWs) - it gives other 85's a run for their money.

Kenji, you often talk out of your butt, but now its just blatant BS.
As much as I like the Samyang/Vivitar Series 1 lenses, and am looking forward to the 35mm f/1.2, and at least testing the 14mm f/2.8 - the 14mm f/2.8 ISN'T out, and in fact has been pushed back to early 2010 due to production issues. So how can you make a statement like this? Its not out, you didn't test it, how can you comment?
Don't spread unsubstantiated information.

Sadly from the review i saw it actually kinda disappoints..
Maybe thats why its been delayed, the one test i saw of it it wasn't doing so hot optically until f/8 or so
I mean still for the price, it may not be fantastic at f/2.8 but if you want to -experiment- with a 14mm lens to see how much you'd use it, its a cheap entry thats for sure

The hell did i do to you?
I'm sorry i didn't clarify, I saw some sampleshots from the 14mm, No I havn't gotten to handle one yet, but i can still say if it looks soft, The sad bit was the samples i saw were at f/8, not f/2.8, and it really doesn't look so hot now..So perhaps the reason the production is delayed is they're trying to -refine- it a bit first..

Z...
They decided to make it 1.4 - but yeah, still haha.. and the 14mm and 85mm have excellent reviews, this should be one helluva lens for the price.

About time! :D
"Samyang 35mm 1:1.4 AS UMC is an optically sophisticated 35mm f/1.4 wide-angle lens, which was designed for full-frame reflex camera."
And the sample images were taken with a D7000. muahhaha
Looks pretty good.

sharpness looks Great wide open on this APS-c 16mp sensor, even in corners, which is always a good sign !
because sharpness will certainly be as good on APS-H or FF sensor (well less in the corners but this is normal behavior),
The Bokeh is kind of a deception, anyway, we need FF samples to judge it, and other comparable range lenses are not really bokeh masters..
wait&see !!

True, we need to see images from ff. From the samples, the iron lightpost in particular - CA seems to be acceptable. But these samples may not be representative, since they may have cherry picked the lens, or a pre-production lens that was tweaked after manufacturing. I'm cautiously optimistic and in for one if there is low sample variation.

I just hope the bokeh isn't so nervous on FF
anyway by looking to the samples again, the first one specially
http://www.samyang.pl//Samples/35mmF14/Samyang_35mm_F14_AS_UMC_sample_DSC_0432.jpg?PHPSES SID=4e5005582209748145edae2f6a527811
Edge sharpness for the left side is outstanding (try it with some USM sharpness is awsome) !
Looks way better the what the sigma 30mm does at f/1.4 (I had one for 6 month sold for focus issues), should be a so-so for the center.
All samyang lenses share the same characteristics, they are not the sharpest in the center, but this changes when looking to image borders, specially at wide apretures, this is noted for the 85mm and the 14mm, and the 8mm fisheye with it's near stereographic projection it is the sharpest fisheye at borders too (I am a happy owner of this one).

Good point. At least from that sample not the creamy bokeh I would have liked. The lens with the nicest bokeh that I ever owned was a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 and K20d body. Sadly the af on the body (no fault of the lens) was so-so.

From those particular samples I'm underwhelmed. They are straight out of the camera so I won't give up hope - yet...
