This one was taken on a stormy evening about 30mins after sunset, I tried for a painterly spooky effect in post pro. By day this section of beach is hidden and almost unvisited by tourists, one of those 'special places' to make pictures away from it all. Location: Sunshine Coast QLD Camera: 350D

Beautiful image Jake, I like it very much.
I might be tempted to darken the foreground slightly, but that's just me.

Brought back memories of over 20 years ago.

Thanks for sharing.

is post pro a program?
or is it photoshop?

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. MattyB, the effect is a combination of photoshop and Noise Ninja (Noise removal prog if anyone is unfamilair). If I know during RAW conversion that I'm going to try something like this I'll push the highlight and shadow contrast straight from there, coming into photoshop I'll go with a strong local contrast adjustment using the unsharp mask, jump into curves and push saturation and global contrast even further, adjusting the opacity sliders on each of these layers until I get the colours and tones I am going for. The detail is removed with noise ninja using a layer mask so I can paint back any detail I'd like or where I feel it's been pushed too hard. The key (in my opinion) is doing your dodging and burning in LAB mode with feathered selections (120-180px), this prevents any unsightly colour shifts and gives a nice tonal graduation.

I'm not really good at explaining something I've done in photoshop but I hope that is some help. I think the confusing part about photoshop is that there are so many different ways to get a result. Experimentation is the key

hello matty a brief explanation of raw in the simplest of terms is that raw is more or less the equivelant of a digital negative

plus points of raw is that it allows exposure adjustment of 1 stop or more in both directions of an image that might be over exposed or under exposed

if you shot an image that was overexposed in jpeg then you would have to spend a lot of time in post processing to rectify the image if it was possible at all ,but with A RAW image you have the luxury of this adjustment amongst many other features

absolutely wonderful. I'm going to keep it in mind to try dodging and burning in LAB mode.
