Foxes!

(The title reminds me of Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd doing their Romanian brothers skit on Saturday Night Live years ago).

Here is a red fox mother and one of her two kits. They moved into our neighborhood recently so we keep our cats inside unless we're outside to watch them. They are pretty bold and are often seen in the morning and at dusk. This pic was taken through a dirty window with my new 20D (love it!) and the 100-400L at about 100@5.6 handheld so it's not razor sharp. Neat to have some predators around in our white-bread, buttoned down community but I fear they'll be in harm's way if my PC neighbors have their way.

Great shot. I don't know how tough your cats are but I remember hearing that foxes are afraid of cats. We have a fox that comes around a lot at night and I see him regularly on CCTV, one night the neighbours cat sat at the corner where he usually passes and I have them on film for about twenty minutes, the fox trying to get past her, evently he gave up. She swiped at him every time he came near, so your cats should be safe enough.
