Hello world,

For my next step, a need to compile several images to augment my signal.
What software do you use to compile / register you're images?

Iris http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/us/iris/iris.htm (http://www.astrosurf.com/buil/us/iris/iris.htm), but maybe more complex at the first try.

definitely recommended for a beginner due to ease of use.

Another vote for DSS here. Free, simple, and there's great documentation on the website.

If you want to get a little more "hands on", look into Nebulosity - not free, but still cheap.

Deep Sky Stacker seems very good. 3 frames test it brought up a descent picture. Installed on Windows 7 it's very stable.

Now I to read the instructions

Thanks

Nebulosity to capture, DSS to Stack and PixInsight to process. Nebulosity controls Digic III Canons through USB and has preview and focus aids. A doddle to use in the field as its fairly simple and has big screen buttons.

DSS is a gem. I have tried stacking in Maxim, Nebulosity and PixInsight and DSS beats them all hands down both for result and ease of use.

Really? I started with DSS to stack, now use Nebulosity for everything it can do. I should do some side-by-side testing to compare results.

That would be way cool.

what about MaximDSLR and ImagePlus and AstroArt .... ?

I find Nebulosity quite slow for doing the actual stacking bit and have had some images that Neb wont stack which DSS had no issues with. DSS takes full advantage of multi processors. Add in the DSS Live Stack feature and to me DSS wins hands down. I run a laptop out in the garden and save the images to a network drive and then have a machine indoors stacking these as they arrive.

I use MaximDL a lot now with my CCD but again mainly for capture. It is very good but I love the simplicty of Neb out in the field.

Then MsximDSLR would be a good choice?

Hopefully the new 64 bit systems will speed up things a little bit!

Maxim is a great tool and I have just started using it with CCDAutopilot so I can plan things out before I go into the dark. Seems to work well.

I dont think Maxim is a 64 bit App. PixinsightCore and CS4 both are.
