What happened to the G5, was it a bummer?

It could be that most people have a G3 or a G6.......I've got a G6 so why on earth would i want to talk about any other G-series. But most people upload shots for good and bad points and sometimes help with problems with a piece of kit and also ask for advice on products but this does'nt mean people are biased to other digy cams. I see alot of shots uploaded into this section who have big dslr's, so what, and this section is about the g-series not the big dslr's. It's great to see any shot taken with any camera, remember that it's the operator that set's the camera up coposes it and presses the taking button and hopefully get the right shot......???!!! :D

The real reason is that the G5 is black and therefore is problem free and superior... like the owners. :)
All kidding aside, except lens adapters, most posts in this section apply to all G cameras.

I'm a G5 owner as well. The only reason you see so much G6 stuff here is because it's NEW! If you looked at this time last year (or a few months ago) you would probably have seen that it was FULL of G5 owners! But I think a lot of people have upgraded to a DSLR which would be a normal transition from a G series. Once you've mastered this series you quickly learn that it only has about 1/4th the potential of a DSLR..........like I have! But hit the link in my signature and you'll see lot's of pictures taken with my G5 in the last 6 months!

The G5 was my entry into digital photography and it is a nice camera. It is very similar to the G3 so for many people there probably wasn't the incentive to upgrade despite being black. The G6 appears to have just that little bit more and is picking up upgraders as well as those new to digital.
I wonder if Canon will release a special edition black model at the end of the run? As for me, I'd like to see a new G with DIGIC II to speed up the start-up and capture time. Until then I'm happily "stuck" with a G5.

I have a G5 and love it. Yes it has limitations, but on it's day it can produce awesome images. See my gallery at http://www.flickr.com/photos/cgt

Hi there ATucker,
I'm a G6 owner and have taken some brillient shots so far and i've just taken a good look at your shots, i'm very impressed at how good the exposure and sharpness are on all of them, i would also say that some of the shots may cause some serious exposure problems like your beach shots and the shots of Windsor castle with it's bright grey walls and you seem to cptured them with no problem at all. I've not really had the chance yet to put mine through some good landscape shots because of the weather, so far most of my shots are of macro because i have never captured close-ups like i'm doing now.
I've put your site into my favs because i like what i see and look forward to seeing some more.

Manny: I wish I could take credit for the Windsor Castle pics, but they belong to Gnasher.

Bruce: Thanks for the comments on my photos. Bear also thanks you for the compliments. He is German Shepherd and ???. I think there is some Malamute in him. The rest we do not know.
I envy your location. Death Valley to the northwest, Joshua Tree to the southwest, Grand Canyon to the east, Utah just up and to the right on the map.

But it gets HOT here. :( I manage to go up to Southern Utah a bit, and find it very scenic around the Zion area. :D
The last Road Trip I took went through the South part of Washington State by The Columbia River, then back down hiwy 1/101. It was BEAUTIFUL!

I've got a G5 too, but I haven't really posted much because my photography skills << other members' photography skills. I am still learning, and I love my G5! Eventually, I will probably treat myself to a 20D, and then I will begin to wonder why I jumped into this expensive hobby. But, the important thing is that I enjoy taking photos and I am having fun with it.

AWESOME! Another CAR shooter on board. (Nice shots)
My suggestion would be to keep the G-5 and get the DSLR. Who said you cant have both? They compliment each other very well. ;)

Yeah, I plan to keep the G5 as a beater. I've grown to love it so much that I can't let it go. The value for a G5 has also dropped alot so it's in my best interest to keep it.
Edit: the flash software that I used for my website tends to resize the pics proportionally according to your monitor resolution. If the pics look jagged then just press F11 to go full screen.

I wish Canon would be the first to offer all their P&S cameras in black. Remember before 1995 when ALL cameras used to be black for years and years and when they were silver they were silver because they were stainless steel? Those were the days, even if I am almost too young to remember those days. I really hate the color silver. Although I will admit I LOVE how the G6 looks. Very sexy camera.

It's been almost two years of rugged running, bus riding, trains, planes, automobiles and motorcycles in South and Central China, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore (if you count little paved islands).
Really, only two things come to mind about the G5:
It still works and it's black.
