Hi Gang,

I have an older server with windows xp professional. It has 1 gig ram and a 75 gig HDD. I have an older Canon scanner that only runs on win 98 and I would really like to use this scanner once again.

The scanner is film only, and I want to say it is a 2200/2400 model number.

Should I ;

1 Buy a new scanner that is XP compatible
2. Convert the server to win 98 and use the old scanner

Any opinions would be welcome.

I couldn't find anything on 2200/2400 scanners but suggest you have a trial of some newer scanning software - try Vuescan http://www.hamrick.com/sup.html
I have a very old Epson film/slide scanner that appeared to be in same situation (fine for win 98) and Vuescan seems to work fine on it.

Yes I am / was a very early adopter of Ed Hamrick's wonderful software. The issue is not the scanning software but that Canon did not / could not support the scanner after Win 98. The scanner is Canoscan 2720u. It would have needed new drivers and if I remember the main issue was 16bit vs 32bit... but not sure. But thank you for the quick reply.

if it has 32bit drivers, then it'll likely work in XP... if not, time for a new scanner, they aren't that expensive
