Another trip to the oracle with the following question:

Is single center focus always the way to go? I love the DOF afforded by shooting with a wide open aperture, but it is often difficult (for me at least) to track the moving player with the one focus point. I have been consider using three vertical or some combination like that to see if I can increase the keepers.

I am going to stop down a bit at the next game to see how 3.2 and 4 look to get some experience at the differences between those settings and 2.8, and wanted to play around with focus points as well.

Just wondering what others find works for them.

well, the 85 1.8 you have owns all! i lived with that thing almost wide open all basketball season...no issues with it tracking with the 20d, unless they wore black or super dark jerseys...

i stick to center point, unless im doing something remotely artsy and switch to MF...and in track i prefocues for some events and tracked on others...

Yeah, the center point seemed great for basketball, but now it's soccer and if I'm tracking a couple of players fighting over the ball at relatively close range, the erratic movement often leaves the focus point off the player I'm trying to focus on.

By the way, are you going to be shooting at school for another year, and if so, will you be shooting football?

Centre point only. It is faster and more accurate.

Thanks, Guys. (Man, Kenny---you sure have a lot of gear! Must take a pack animal to haul all that kit to the track!)
