What color Seamless paper

Wasn't sure which section to post this in as it covers alot of types of photography, but figured it was studio related.

I am going to get some seamless and as shipping is expensive, it's cheaper to get several rolls at the same time.

I am going to get white for sure, and probably black, but what would be a third colour, just a neutral grey?

And with al the different grey's which would be best. I am looking at B&H specifically

I use fashion gray and have a roll of thunder gray. Depending on the space and type of lighting, some people prefer colored seamless rather than trying to gel.

Another example of using colored seamless would be if you were using a ring flash and wanted your model up against the background. You wouldn't be able to gel the background.

For the black and white I'd go with Savage super white and super black.

It's really tough to get even color over a large area with gels. Colored seamless is much easier assuming you have the color you need.

Ditto on the thunder grey, it has a bit of a blue cast to it which I find more pleasing than a pure grey.

If you're looking to have the paper shipped, take a look at getting an NAPP membership. B&H offers free shipping to NAPP members. I saved more than the cost of the membership between seamless and sandbags.

It certainly depends on how large the seamless is as to whether you can gel it evenly. I would try it with 9 foot seamless but I've never had any trouble with 53" rolls.

At one time I saw/read Robert (TMR Design) recomended the following and I went to B&H locally and picked-it-up and I have never regretted it, I got the 53" size though as I don't have a big space, mine are all made by Savage:

If you do regular business with B&H you'll find that the $99 NAPP membership fee pays for itself very quickly, especially with 9 foot rolls of seamless paper or heavy and large hardware such as light stands, beauty dishes, etc.

There's really no way to tell by viewing a swatch or color online. For the price of that roll plus shipping it would make sense to just order from B&H. Also, there's nothing critical about the shade of gray you get. Basically there are light grays, middle grays and dark grays. I would just find one that looks ok and go with it. When in doubt go with a mid gray. You can always render is lighter or darker as needed.
