World speedway champion Jason Crump guested tonight for Arena Essex... and here are a few pics to mark the occasion...

Mr Crump was looking pretty confident before the meeting...

and he certainly turned on the style in some of the races.

Although it wasn't all plain sailing...

...and there was some other racing!

Some of the riders gave their bikes some air right from the start...

...and may those wheels keep spinning!

GMEN, first off, what's it like to walk around knowing that you are the best in the biz? Your shots are simply amazing!!

Not that it will help me, but can I ask the settings etc. that you used for these shots?

It is just not fair that you make me look every time. Love that last shot.

Awesome shots, all of them. The last one is very unique. A shot that I can't remember seeing before.

Thanks very much madplower! I'm far, far from the 'best in the biz'... but I am very much enjoying shooting this speedway malarkey!

For many of the shots I was using a 135mm f/2 at f/2.8 or wider - shutter speed was 1/320s - 1/500s.

Great shots all of them, but I specially love the second...

Agree with that, the second is the most "spectacular" of the group (these are all great, no way!).

But the last one is very, very special. I love that one. Its something you see very rarely in picture.

Thanks Rob! I just wish I could go back and remove that oily rag in the middle of the frame! *lol*

If you look at pic#5, it shows a great benefit in being the champ. No laundry bills or extensive motorcycle cleanup after the race!

Sure removing the rag will somehow add to the pic, but IMHO in this way it just looks more real. Rags ARE around when you have engines, and often they are just where they are not supposed to be. Real life, man. Oily rags just happens to be there ! :)

You're right Rob... and I was just pondering on cloning it out of the image - but my 'journalistic ethics' got the better of me! *lol*

Anyways... while I'm here, I'll share a couple more pics from the evening's racing...
