I've always been fascinated by carnivorous plants, here is one of my favorites, hope you like. Taken with my Canon D60, hand-held, ISO of 100, f5.6 shutter speed at 1/250.

Stunning. The hairs on the underside of the lid are very clear.

Thats really cool... carnivorous plants have always fascinated me, but this is coming from a guy who grew up with a biologist/nursery owner for a dad. We had some (don't remember the variety) growing wild in a swampy area near my parents home until some jerk found them and decided to plant them in his flower garden in his front yard!!!! Needless to say they didn't last long... Thanks so much for sharing!

I have a few Sarracenias in my Garden, they're amazingly effective catchers. Love the colours.

You can grow them in a greenhouse or even on a window-ledge. My brother has a kitchen window full of them.
Great shot too by the way.

Yes they are fascinating plants, I kept a few for a while some years ago until they eventually faded away, I could never keep a Venus fly trap more than a couple of months, but the pitchers lasted a long time. The first shot is great, very sharp and nicely coloured.

how fast can these plants close their lids ?

The time it takes to spring the trap is an amazing 100 milliseconds, it takes them 10 days to digest one fly, bad news is, they have a limited life span, the trap can only be sprung several times before it dies. the trigger is amazing as well, it is coated with very fine "hairs" that are ultra-sensitive to motion or contact. This info pertains to the Venus fly-trap. others may vary.
