I am planning on buying a 20D body in late January of 2006 which as I write this is 10 months away. Any educated guesses as to how much I should be prepared to shell out then?

Probably as much as a 10D goes for now...

I would think it will be in the $899-999 range, something in the Digi-Rebel space.

More like 8 months away.
As for price, I'll guess at $999, but it's just a guess.

Personally, I would save up like it was going to cost me the same as it does now. Then, if it does go down, you are ahead of the game. Maybe even have enough money to buy some L glass :). If it doesn't go down, you still have enough to buy the camera.

I would forget about it until I saw the price achieve WOW!!! factor, as I did with my 300D ... but then I am a very patient kinda fella
The cool alternative is to put away a set amount each month and get some interest at the same time ... and then wait until the WOW!!! factor price appears.
The worst thing to do is intend to save something, count the days, don't save, lose patience and just buy one at daft price when you happen to be in a camera shop and it's in your hand
I'm think about the right time will be next January ... meanwhile I am SO happy with my 300D I could wee myself!
