Congrats to you for the important pic and to that fine young mans first solo:-)

I like it. First times are always memorable.:) :)

I do find the background a little distracting, perhaps a closer crop on the child and mother or do a gaussian blur on the background to isolate them some more.

How different things are today. He looks like he's dressed for a Grand Canyon jump attempt. But that's not a photo comment. The picture is pretty neat. The background too busy though. As mentioned above, a little PS blurring would help isolate them.

Thanks for the comments, guys. When I took the shot I liked the protective gear, the kid's intense forward stare, and the Mom's worried look (she's my neighbor).

Dave and John - you're right about the background, and I'll try blurring it out in PS tonight.

Thanks.

It is a wonderful photo of a wonderful moment. But I would crop it out more and get rid of any unnecessary background, then blur out the rest.

Thanks for the hints. I agree it's better this way.

maybe I could have done a better job in photoshop, if so I'd be glad to learn how. Here's what I did -- selected house, deleted rest, locked transparent pixels and guassian blur=20, then selected lawn/curb, deleted rest, locked transparent, and guassian blur=10, merged the two blur layers, blurred the join between lawn and house, placed these above the rest of image and flattened.

thanks for the comments,

I liked the first one, just blurring the backround would have done it for me. I don't like the close crop, but that's just me.

I like the close crop and the blur :D

I like first attempt and i think the background puts it in the context that the kid is outside His own house. He looks confident enough!
