View Full Version : My wife borrowed my camera....

This is sort of on topic, just thought it was humerous. My wife and son had a school competition to go to this evening and she asked if she could borrow my camera and new 70 - 200 F4 L lens. I told her to have at it. We were just talking and I asked her if she got any good shots she told me oh yeah, that lens is amazing. Then she proceded to tell me about all of the comments she was getting from other folks there with point and shoots, you know - Nice camera... what a lens... bet that takes good pictures. I asked her what she told the people that were making the comments to quote her she kept telling everyone the they had "lens envy". She then told me how special she felt taking pictures with such a huge lens.
I'm thinking, if she likes that maybe it will be easier to get the 100 - 400 down the road - If that little 70 - 200 made you feel special, imagine how you will feel carrying this sucker around.
Sorry for being a bit off topic here, mods you can kill / move this to a more appropriate place if you deem necessary.

Haha, sounds like a good plan to me :) btw the 100-400 is only .6 inches longer and .6 inches wider than the 70-200 F4. It's also little shorter but a little fatter than the 70-200 F2.8 IS, and weighs a bit less.

I can relate to the comments your wife receives. I use a 70-200 F2.8 non-IS on my 20D to shoot both of my son's inline hockey games. I get a lot of comments about that large white lens. I just tell them they have "lens envy". I then get some stupid comment back about compensating. :p I have no clue as to what they are saying. Anyway, I have gotten much better action shots since I got the lens. Here the recent hockey collage I made for each player on the team with that lens.

I agree with Maureen. Life is much better now that we are a 2 camera family.

Set the camera, macro lens and tripod up for my wife to take some shots of jewellery for selling on eBay. Got a call at work: 'how do I switch the camera on?' .
Show you that there are significant differences between her EOS 30 and my 20D, apart from the 20D being digital ;) .

If you would have handed her a 2.8 version of that lens, she might be feeling differently. The f4 version is so tiny compared to that.
