I seldom like thingies added to the edge. This one is an exeption. Hm, makes me wonder why...
I find it hard to figure out why something works (or doesn't). But here is my attempt:
1) Somehow the edges mimic the worn stone the cat is lying on. That makes it "in sync"
2) Seem sto me the image is postprocessed (more than only the edges), and hence has a bit the feel of a drawing in a bit old fashioned book. I guess that goes well with the "old and worn" edges as well.
BTW I love the soft tones. Slightly clouded day I presume?

Yep I think that edging just sets it off... very nice!
