for those who have traveled recently (the latest thread on this was 05).
I'm thinking a TT Acceleration and another bag (personal item) containing change of clothes, makeup and stuff I don't want to be without overnight. In otherwords, larger than a purse.
Would both of these be allowed under normal US flight circumstances or would the size of both the bags be challenged?
Any thoughts?

If it is one change of clothes, you could probably get by with the TT and small duffel bag that squeezes under the seat.
For example, I have used this bag as my "personal item" bag to be stored under the seat: http://www.filson.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2092382&cp=2065674.2065687.2065708&parentPage=family
But when I use that bag, I do not fill it to capacity. I maybe use half of its capacity. If I filled it, I would never get on with two bags.

Unless it is a problem carrying the bags, you should be able to take it on a normal domestic US flight. Not too long ago, I carried a TT Airport Security and a 400 f2.8L IS in its original shipping box onto a flight without problems. The only question I got was after I stowaway the 400 next to the TTAS in the overhead. The flight attendant asked how much the 400 cost.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm now rethinking due to restrictions and might go with a Kelty womens daypack and a toploader.
Got to get the gear there...right ;)

I fly at least twice a month with a TT Airport Acceleration and another shoulder bag and have never had any problems.
Besides......if you fly even one flight these days you will see other people with WAY more stuff than that as carry on. I dont think you will stand out.

I carry an Adventure 9 with all my gear and a Think Tank International as carry on. The personal item is the backpack. Only if you are flying a small plane will they only allow 1 item. That has happened a few times, so just make sure you see the handlers put the larger case in the plane before takeoff. That's what I've done in the last few years. If you want to take all your gear in the backpack and then a small roller case, that's fine, too. I've done that for small jobs.

It's all in how you present yourself to the airline agents at the gate.
For starters, always put your shoulder bag on the opposite shoulder from where the gate agent is taking tickets. Next tip: no matter how heavy your bag is, make it appear like it is light as a feather. And last but not least, strike up a friendly hello the moment they direct their attention at you. Any amount of conversation will make it harder for them to say something to you.
Trust me, this will go a long way...

No one has ever questioned me about my Adventure 9 and it weighs a ton. But the last time I traveled on a small plane, they absolutely refused to let me take more than 1. So, carry the most important gear in the first bag and insists they put the other one into the plane and you watch it.
