I've had the camera for about a month and never noticed this noise before.
When the camera is OFF, it sounds like something is loose inside the lens assembly. Camera has never been dropped. No noise when the camera is turned on and it seems to be operating ok.
Is this normal? Should I have it checked out?

GRS1959 - Just checked my SX10 - turned off. Turning it over - gentle shake - no rattles... Have you checked that the battery compartment is properly closed? Nothing inside the lens-cap that shouldn't be? Nothing attached to the strap that's making a noise? You didn't open the card or battery doors before turning-off via the button - that is, with the lens out in the "ready" position?
Wait a bit to see if anyone who has more experience with SX10s has some ideas - I've only had mine a few weeks, too.
But, as it's still in Warranty, you should be able to take it back and have it checked without cost.
Hope you get that worry sorted soon...
Regards, Dave.

I suggest you send Canon your findings via an e-mail thru the below link and see what they will do :

I called Canon....of course they said it was normal.
Now I am having trouble convincing myself that the camera is not having focus issues...everything seems a little soft. Might be my imagination and lack of skills.
I called a local camera shop...they said the IS mechanism can rattle around a little when not powered up. He pulled a brand new SX20 out of the display case and it made the same noise.
I guess I feel better.
