I just bought the 7 million dollar home b/c it allows the vertical grip on the camera (getting delivery tomorrow). ;-)

Ebags doesn't have the new lineup yet.

If you wait for ebags, log into your paypal account and there is a link in there for a 20% discount off ebags bags.

I bought mine from www.bagyou.com (http://www.bagyou.com) and they ship via Fedex 2 Day. Great store and customer service (they emailed me back with each step & tracking number).

Roanjohn, there's a Crumpler store in the vicinity of 8th Avenue and 13th Street. I haven't been inside (I always see it though when I bike) but I think it is a Crumpler outlet store. You might have some luck there.

Also, there's a Crumpler Store at 45 Spring street...

I just received my 7 Million Dollar Home, quite impressed so far. the entire inside is coated with fuzzy-goodness, so the options for the plentiful velcro deviders it comes are fairly endless. I can fit my 300D with grip and 24-70 attached(hood reversed of course), 70-200 2.8 IS, EFS 10-22, 1.4X TC, 580EX w/ Omnibounce on it, all in padded bliss, the *only* overlapping is with the 10-22 and 1.4x, one has to sit on top of the other, but there I have a flexy-devider which makes a vertical wall between the 10-22+1.4x stack and the 580EX, and the bendy part goes down to make a horizontal pad between the 10-22 (on top) and the 1.4x. some pockets in the front and underside of the main flap work well for filters/accessories which are still padded decently from the outside. This setup weighs in at approximately 17 metric tons, but the bag seems more than sturdy enough to carry it around without pushing anything close to a limit, and the included extra pad for the main strap works well, making it all around not bad to carry even with that much weight. All in all, I think I'll definately be happy with it, if I get out tomorrow I'll see how it is actually going out and about with it.

End of impromptu bag review.
Realization that I need to use paragraphing more often.

Yup, the 49 8th Ave shop is what I meant. It is near the vicinity of 13th St and 8th Ave. The streets are kinda strange over there - look for a small triangle formed by Horatio St, 8th Ave and W 4th St. The Crumpler store is near an Italian restaurant and a cool bakery.

Ok crappy photo but you can see it anyway, feels weird taking a picture of $4500 of photo gear with a Handycam.
Anyway, only thing not showing really is the 1.4x, which is under a padded devider under the 10-22.

Also not shown is the real color, the inside is actually a light blue. Lighting here was provided by a flourescent shop light and a 4-cell Maglight.

Yeah I had to put my 20D in sideways as well with the vertical grip.

Doesn't seem like a good fit either, it just sits on top.

I'll be out on Sunday with the bag so I'll see then how much I like it.

Just placed an order for a 6 Million Dollar Home. Darn expensive, so I hope it really fits the bill. I don't have a lot of stuff to carry (yet!), so I'm confident we'll have no problems fitting it all. My main concern - and the reason we got this bag - was so we could cary just the essentials when we're going on day trips or on the boat. We have a larger suitcase-like bag that we fit everything in, but it's very inconvienient for short trips.

When I get it in, I'll shoot some shots of it for you.

Got it over at http://www.crumplerbags.com - and the red one to boot!

The 7 Mil bag looks incredible. My only concern is one of weather-proofing. It seems from the stills that the cover straps down but there is no zipped enclosure or top for the actual contents, like may Lowepro's have got. Is this correct? If it's as rain-proof as the Lowepros, I want one!

Thenethiel
1st of June 2005 (Wed), 20:16
I think the fabric itself would keep rain out fairly well, but the 2 edges of the bag, around where the shoulder strap attaches, are slightly open. It's more of an annoyance to me just because it's there than it is a problem since I'm rarely very far from shelter, if you tend to be in the rain more it would definately be something to be aware of.

I think this would be my only complaint about the bag so far, after a weekend of Geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com/) with it, it fit perfectly all the gear I wanted it to fit, and the 14 pound total weight was not bad at all to lug around through the dense underbrush of suburban Chicago city parks.

While I love their website, and while I wanted to love their bags, as I'm always seeking the "perfect" bag, I did not like their bags at all.

Am I alone in this? the material is incredibly stiff, the bags are not light, there are openings along the side of the top flap, etc, etc.

Maybe I'm missing something. I'll have to look again at their new lineup when B&H gets it in.

And they are way overpriced.

Anyone with an older Crumpler going to upgrade to the new million dollar collection?
I have the Next Venue and was wondering if I should change to the newer line. Only reason would be is right now I can only fit the camera sideways instead of lens down because of the hidden chamber on the old line. Just wondering if anyone else is moving on?

UPDATE!!!

Finally had a chance to visit thier store in SOHO. THAT STORE IS SMALL!!! It's literally the size of a narrow hallway!!! I had to go back and forth around spring st. until I finally found it!!! WHEW!!! That was a challenge!!!   There is one sales person in there.........a kinda wacky Asian dude. He's cool, and he seems very laxed and laid back kinda guy.......definitely a character.

So the bags are nice. Very well made but kinda heavy (heavier than my tamrac). The heaviness can be largely blamed on the padding.....which is pretty much all over. I guess it gives your gear that added protection, which is a good thing BTW.

I initially purchased the 15 Love (they have everything in that store). Went home........and realized it was TOO SMALL!!! It can fit an XT with a lens attached, another lens......and a flash (in the hidded chambers of secrets). It was also very awkward - the bag kinda tilts forward when you strap it in your shoulder (weird) And the way everything is laid out - its not easily accessible..........So I returned it..........and for the same price - got the 6 million dollar baby. HEAVEN!!! This bag is great. Perfect compact size. It can easily fit my XT, 17-40, 85 f1.2, 50 f1.4 and an external flash. The bag is nice and wide so I can leave the hoods attached. I will post some pics later when I get home. The only downside is the price - 115 USD!!! YIKES!!! But its hip and urban..........so, whatever, I guess thats the price you pay.....

Doh, Ro, I think I mentioned above that they are heavy, stiff bags with lots of padding. Unless one is quite careless with one's bag, there is no need for that much padding. While I like out of the way things, things that are different, every time I checked out those bags in B&H I just put them right back down. When it comes to the LowePro and Tamrac bags, the Crumpler's pale in comparison.

Oh, yeah, good luck with yours.

RoanJ, Congratulations on your new bag! I say if you like it and think it is perfect, then it is perfect for you. Bags are just one of those things that are highly subjective; one person's choice may be another's reject.

I love my Domke F2. It has minimal padding and made of canvas, but it is lightweight and molds to my body when I carry it. It is large enough to allow comfortable lens changes and does not attract (I think) much attention. Some of my friends don't like it, they say it doesn't have much padding. But I think it is perfect for me. My other bags of choice are my Timbuk2 messenger bags which I line with a piece of closed cell foam. Works pretty well too and looks discrete, at least in NYC.

Enjoy your bag, and hope to see you in this Sunday's parade! Mabuhay!

The store is HARD to find!!! It is literally sandwitched between a restaurant and a clothing store. It's just a door.............and a glass window where you can look in and see the bags in display. And you won't see any signs either......just keep your eyes open - you will find it.

if you sling it across your chest as a messenger bag, the strap goes under your arm.

If it's the stabilizer strap, then yes, it helps when you ride a bike. Useful too for keeping the bag on your back when walking. To see how to wear it, look at this page http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/catalog/categories.t2?categoryId=6 and click on "How To Wear". It ain't Crumpler, but it should work the same way.

hi fellows,

I was looking for a bag to carry my new gear and I read this thread about three days ago. I ordered the 7 million dollar bag by *instinct* and I got it today. These are my thoughts and my critics (from an industrial toughness perspective):

The bag is light (as least for me) and small. You can almost carry it like a purse. I read somewhere that the bag was supposed to be heavy.

The bag uses plastics hardware! Wuau, $115 and they use Kmart quality stuff. Good bags use metal hardware and that make them last a lot longer (like lowepro).

The bag has single weak seams. This tells me that it is not designed for heavy loads (otherwise they made a mistake). I am used to carry $25 lbs in my backpack everyday (notebook+books) and I have broken a couple of backpacks before (they always brake at the seams). I've had the Targus TSB212 for about 4 years now and that thing is indestructible (feels heavier than the 7 million crumpler) and it is cheap but I am getting tired of the backpack because it doesn't brake and it is starting to look ugly.

The bag is made of cordura material. This is good and it keeps it from scratching and tearing up. But like someone said before, the top part of the bag has exposed holes (to rain) and when the bag is closed (when you carry it in the shoulder), it flexes and a little hole shows up at the end. The padding inside is good and plenty but the botton padding should be thicker just in case you droop the bag (most backpacks have the laptop compartment raise just for this). you can add extra pad at the botton. It uses velcro for just about any of the pockets.

The bag is good if you don't want to bring attention. For example if you are in a city or airport, you would want up keep a low profile so that you don't become a target.

My conclusion: this bag is expensive as far as quality goes (seams and hardware) but the building material is excellent (cordura). It wasn't design for battle or endurance. It is more like fashion bag than anything else but this helps to keep a low profile and it may save you from losing all the gear.

PS: I got the brown model with green interior.

Cheers

arpi - even though they use plastic hardware, they have a 99 year guarantee. if it breaks, or even gets loose, they'll replace it.

i love my 7 million dollar home - it has replaced my tallee as my quick trip bag. i used to reverse the hood on my 1dmk2/24-70L combination, but i don't anymore. it fits comfortably vertically, and it's still quite secure. i still have plenty of room for lenses and flash(es). my only complaint is the new cheap straps - i wish they used the messenger bag style strap. my schrinkle still remains as my primary bag (as in take it almost everywhere).

Thenethiel,

I'm looking for a walk-around shoulder bag that I can shoot out of. Is your Crumpler 7 Million tall enough to store the 70-200mm lens mounted on the camera? If so, is there room to also carry a 100-400mm zoom?

If it's not too much trouble, could you measure the interior dimensions (WxDxH) of the bag, ignoring any removable divider material?

Thanks!
