Do you have to use a circular polarizer filter for the G3 to keep the auto focus working like the 35mm Canon EOS cameras or can you use a regular polarizer?

I remember reading elsewhere (dpreview perhaps--do a search and see) that a linear polarizer does not affect the autofocus.
That said, I have always used circular polarizers on my G-series digicams.

The Canon G series uses contrast to focus. A polarizing filter darkens the picture a bit and lowers the contrast because of that. Any problems in focusing will only be because of the lowered contrast.

I brought up the linear vs circular question up at a local photography store when I was purchasing my polarizer filter for my Lensmate adapter. They said that the G-series cameras do not require a circular polarizer and that linear will do. It's much cheaper. I bought the linear version. Works fine.

From what I read here http://www.binbooks.com/books/photo/i/l/571F6AFC8A it seems like digital cameras, unless they are SLR's, can use both linear and circular polarizers.
