I am considering an external monitor for my dell Precision M6300. After reading some treads on monitors it seems like the dell 2209WA is an excellent choice.

My question relates to others experience with this monitor or if there is something better. My budget is less than $500...

Any ideas, suggestions, or comments?

Anyone tested any of the new LED screens for photography?

The only Dell's that are really decent for photography are the Ultrasharps. The none wide screens are better I believe as well. I run the 2007FP and they work pretty well. Thinking about switching to the new LED mac screens though. I run apple anyway.

Would the Dell Ultrasharp 2209wa 22-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor be a good choice? Price is $300

What is the difference between 2209wa and 2209w... Price is about half

Apple monitors can be ran on a PC, FYI.

Apple Cinemas, then Dell and Hp. Dell is supposedly the same guts as Apples, but cheaper.

I am considering the 2209w (due to comments), but still don't know the difference between that and the 2209wa...

I am anxious to get something soon.... Please help...

Do you want color accuracy? Wide color gamut? Or do you just need a screen for general use (e.g. Word, Excel).

Recommendation(s) are contingent on these factors.

The one with the A ending is better for photograph. If memory serves, the WA has an IPS screen whereas the W has a TN based screen. If IPS sounds like a shipping company and TN an alternative name for Tennessee, then do a Wiki search and you will see the benefits of both.

Here is link saying the WA is IPS.

Definitely make sure you are getting an IPS panel, whoever makes it. They are going to be more usable in terms of color quality and angle of view than the TN panels. With a little google work you can find out what panel is in almost any monitor out there.

Disclaimer - I have no idea when comparing to LED panels..

I have a 2209WA and I love it. I may get another one before too long. I got mine through Dell for just under $220. If you look around, you can find discount coupons.

The 2209W is a TN panel (as mentioned above). You want the WA with the IPS panel.

Here is a thread devoted to the 2209WA, with some details on how to get it for below retail price:

How critical are you on color?

NEC 2690wuxi2
Lacie 526 (slightly less gamut)
Eizo

Very high end panels, but if you need the color accuracy, these should be on your short list.
