I am considering replacing/subplementing my existing Samsun crt monitor with a LCD monitor for my photo editor pc.

So far my choice is down to following models:

- Samsung Syncmaster 910T (highly recommended by RFMsports) I have also seen this at the store
- Samsung Syncmaster 213T, I have not seen this but the few comments I have read about this is also raving this monitor
- NEC LCD1970NX-BK, recommended by co-worker but have not seen this myself.

Both Samsung are based on the panel type PVA and the NEC is based on S-IPS. According to www.prad.de it seems that PVA panel should be slightly better for photo editing as far as I can judge by this matrix (http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/shownews_lex59.html).

910T have a much higher contrast ratio.
213T is a 21,3" screen with a higher resolution as a result

Anybody know the 213T or the NEC monitor?

If You have other suggestions please note that the monitor must have both DVI and VGA input.

A comparison between the 3 monitors here. Tommy,

Have just bought an LG1915S as an upgrade from a Samsung 19" CRT. Fantastic images, no eye strain and 2 feet of desk space reclaimed! Also just £200.

I have the Syncmaster 213T and a Syncmaster 192N. The 213T is an outstanding monitor. Don't know anything about the others.

Sorry, Tommy, I can't give you any technical advice but my vote is to get either one of the two Samsung LCD monitors. Why, you ask? Well, I just found out that the company I work for supplies the bulk of the specialty gases (or material?) that Samsung uses to make their LCD monitors. So, it's like you'd be indirectly buying from us. :D :)

I have a 910T and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

If I use the DVI input would a calibration be required?

Would I be wasting my money if I ordered a ColorVision Spyder2 ?

If I should by a Spyder which version should I buy then?

If you get the Syncmaster 213T and you have a half-way decent video card, you won't need the Spyder. The color on these monitors is fantastic and, more to the point, they render my photographs realistically. The prints I make from the shots on my screen come out just as I expect.
