Hi, I’m new (although I’m sure you noticed) and I have a question about optical zooming on cameras, as I’m thinking of buying one, and what I’m wondering is, when a camera says it has 3x optical zoom, does this mean say you were viewing a 3m by 3m square, and you zoomed in fully, would you then be seeing a 1m by 1m square, or 1/3 of the area (1.7m by 1.7m I think) and I do know the difference between optical and digital zoom, thanks to some members on this forum.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place just I wasn’t sure and thought it seemed most appropriate.
The only reason I'm wondering is because I know manufacturers label things differently to appeal more to consumers, whilst be correct in one way isn't actually how you'd imagine (things like a 21 inch TV, is diagonally)
I’d appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me, thanks
oh and by the way, nice pictures everyone :)
