Well after weeks (without success) of going out in the evenings trying to capture a Kestrel in flight I decided to change tactics and ventured out VERY early this morning! They're difficult to get real close to when they're hunting but this one flew over me as I watched it and I managed to get one decent shot, no where near as sharp as I'd like but hey I'm a happy chap :D

I think I must of caught the light just right with regard to his eye as it really stands out on the original version. Taken using the 1DMk2 and the 100-400L at full stretch.
Thanks for looking.

I suppose when you want to shoot wild life you have to be happy with most of the results, and you should be very happy with that one, i like it and i think most other people will agree......'nice one'

Very nice indeed Paul.
The exposure is very good, especially since the bird must have been backlit.
The catchlight in the eye is excellent.
Any chance of some shooting parameters. ISO, exposure, metering etc.
One more thing, have you tried the 1D MK II with the 400 f5.6 and the 1.4 TC.
I don't know why I'm asking this, I can't afford another lens. :(

I don't know why I'm asking this, I can't afford another lens. :(Shot @ f/5.6, 1/1600 sec, ISO 400, Spot metering. I had it set to spot metering purely to see what happened, to be honest most of my other attempts were way underexposed so I'm guessing partial metering would give more keepers?
I use the 400 f/5.6 combined with a 1.4x a great deal, the results are very impressive to say the least. I usually have this combo on the 1DMk2 so as to keep AF at f/8 and use the 100-400 on the 20D.
Thanks everybody for your kind comments!

I'm intersested in the 400 5,6 with the 1.4 Tc .
Could you supply a shot taken with this combo and the 1D MK II.
I would be very grateful.
