I am going to be shooting a triathlon next weekend with my SX10 IS. I think manual setting would be my best choice. Can anyone recommend a shutter speed that can capture triathlon motion pics with out going so high that I have to crank up the ISO to a point where i will suffer noise? I am expecting a sunny day.

If it's going to be sunny then you should be fine shooting at 1/500 or thereabouts without having to bump up the ISO much (if at all).

In fact, I just checked on some pics I took at a triathlon last year with an SX100, and I was shooting at 1/1600 and ISO 80 with no problems.

Here's a pic to give you an idea of the results.
