Is there a good photography store in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? The only one I am aware of is Wolf Camera. They are good, but very poor selection.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a bunch.

Why buy local when you can buy online at a much lower price minus tax?

Just my .02cents. I live in Richardson and haven't found anywhere locally that can compete with online merchants.

I agree. But I sometimes like to look at what I'm about to buy. Especially when it comes to something like a camera bag. I just cannot tell by pictures if it is what I want.

I bought a Crumpler online thinking it would work, but I cannot get all my stuff in there without taking out all the dividers and, even then, cramming. I don't want to waste any more money on a bag that isn't practical.

I'm only familiar with Arlington Camera and Fort Worth Camera. Both are private owned shops, not some national chain. I'm not familiar with any on the Dallas side of town

Wolf has a web site try: ritzcamera.com
If In doubt have the salesperson order one for you to see. Anyway you can check if you can order it online through ritz and be able to return loclly. they offer tax free and shipping free over $100.

I wouldn't buy a breathe of air from Wolf's/Ritz.

And don't even get me started on why you SHOULD buy locally as opposed to supporting a mega-site. There is no comparison for good in person customer service or a sales rep that knows you.

See that, I got started any way.

When I lived in Dallas, a store I frequented quite often was Warehouse Photographic on Belt Line Road in Carrollton betweenJosey and Webb Chapel. They sold lots of used stuff, and I found all sorts of fun toys there.

Arlington Camera is also quite good, but a hefty drive from most parts of Dallas.

But times change especially now that used photo stuff has fallen through the floor in value. I haven't been to Warehouse Photo since about 1996 or 1997.

I brought my F4S & other goods in 1998 from Arlington Camera and just brought my 20D kit from them at a better price than most places in NYC, where I am at this writing. Ask for Jay and he will get you what you need. I went by the Warehouse Photographic first to see what they had, nothing. I then went to Arlington and brought my 20D. They have the 10-22EF for $739.00 and in stock to give you an ideal. Check them out: www.arlingtoncamera.com (http://www.arlingtoncamera.com/)

Take care,

Lynn

I spent a great deal of time working in DFW and was staying at Esters and Highway 114. Just slightly east of there (I can't remeber the name of the road) is a Wolf/Ritz camera center and they have a clearance center as well. I was able to pick up a few things reasonably priced.

This September I'm staying at the Gaylord Texan hotel and conference centre, near Dallas Fort Worth airport (by Lake Grapevine). B&H tell me they don't deliver to hotels unless I pay COD or by Money Order. Very strange since they ship to my PO Box here. Anyway, I have to decide whether to buy in-store or find another online shop that will accept my credit card and deliver to the hotel.

How would you describe the photo stores in the area? Would the the ones mentioned above have a large range of lenses, tripods, monopods and CF cards at a good price (not too much more expensive than online)? And how much is the Texas tax rate?

Hope one of you can give a bit more information. I don't want to spend too much time looking for stuff as I'm there to enjoy myself. Oh - and I won't have a car so will be using public transport (and probably getting lost and confused in the process) :)

Thanks for that AjP. I'll stick that on my list. I can just see a title for my trip: "Lost in Dallas" ;)
