I work with the DVX and was wondering if anyone on the forum worked with the XL1/XL2. I know it takes many of the camera lenses and was wondering because of that can you acheive a real nice Shallow Depth of field with the video camera? This is for the most part really hard to acheive with the DVX- I have to be zoomed all the way in ap 2.8
So was wondering if the XL1/XL2 could use say a prime lens etc. I may be wrong in theroy so correct me if this does not work in terms of photo lens to video camera creating a simlair Bokeh effect.

Thanks

As I understand it,. there is an adapter (approx $500.00 on it's own) that will allow the "XL" cams to use EF lenses.

You are looking at a huge (I seem to recal 5X ? ) "crop factor"

Ie a 100mm lens will "crop like" a 500mm lens on the XL's CCD.

I should've gotten that adapter while I still had access to that cam. I can only imagine shooting eagles with... 350-1000 f/2.8

I would "guess!" the bokeh is going to be exactly same as in cropped image on your DSLR.

But I don't know if you'll be able to use it to your advantage though, since you'll only have telephoto lenses available to you. Even a 16mm times five is a 80mm film equivalent, yet with the bokeh of a 16mm lens... which is pretty much what you have right now.

You need large sensors to get good bokeh

I bet the XL cameras are nice. I ordered a GL2, should be fun to play with.
